For many native Chinese speakers, English tuition is a must, as is Mandarin for others 這 一 句 ， 最 後 五 字 應 怎 樣 解 釋 ？
述 句 之 後 ， 英 文 有 時 會 用 「 as + be （ 即 is 、 was 等 ） / do / have / shall / can 等 + 主 詞 （ subject ） 」 這 句 式 ， 表 示 上 文 所 述 也 可 用 來 說 另 一 些 人 、 物 等 ， 例 如 ： （ 1 ） He is a renowned scholar, as is his wife （ 他 是 著 名 學 者 ， 他 太 太 也 是 ） 。 （ 2 ） I have seen better days, as has Hong Kong （ 我 經 歷 過 較 好 的 日 子 ， 香 港 也 是 一 樣 ） 。 讀 者 示 下 那 一 句 ， 意 思 就 是 ： 「 對 很 多 母 語 是 中 文 的 人 來 說 ， 英 文 不 能 不 學 ， 正 如 對 另 一 些 人 來 說 ， 中 國 官 話 是 必 須 學 習 的 。 」

英 文 沒 有 today special 這 說 法 ， 只 有 today's special 或 special of the day ， 即 商 店 的 「 是 日 特 價 品 」 或 餐 廳 的 「 是 日 特 別 食 品 」 ， 那 special 作 名 詞 ， 例 如 ： The supermarket is advertising apples as today's special （ 超 級 市 場 登 廣 告 說 今 天 蘋 果 特 價 ） 。
鞋 店 外 寫 明 「 修 補 鞋 子 」 ， 英 文 譯 作 repair shoes 文 法 當 然 沒 有 錯 ， 但 這 類 文 字 一 般 不 會 用 這 種 「 動 詞 + 名 詞 」 寫 法 ， 而 會 用 「 名 詞 + 名 詞 」 ， 即 shoe repair 。 至 於 shoes repaired ， 那 是 「 鞋 子 修 補 好 了 」 的 意 思 ， 例 如 鞋 匠 可 發 簡 短 電 郵 給 顧 客 說 ： Shoes repaired （ = Your shoes have been repaired ） . Please come and pick them up during shop hours （ 鞋 子 修 補 好 了 。 請 於 營 業 時 間 前 來 領 回 ） 。

Therefore 一 字 之 後 應 不 應 用 逗 點 ？
逗 點 的 一 個 用 法 ， 是 《 牛 津 高 階 英 漢 雙 解 詞 典 》 所 謂 to show where there is a slight pause in a sentence （ 顯 示 句 中 稍 稍 停 頓 處 ） 。 這 停 頓 無 礙 文 法 ， 今 天 多 會 把 逗 點 略 去 。 Therefore 前 後 的 逗 點 ， 一 般 就 是 可 有 可 無 的 。
Therefore 用 於 句 首 ， 詞 書 有 以 下 例 句 ， 一 加 逗 點 ， 一 不 加 ： （ 1 ） Therefore, the picnic is canceled （ 郊 遊 野 餐 因 此 取 消 。 見 NTC's American English Learner's Dictionary ） 。 （ 2 ） Therefore they need more protein （ 他 們 因 此 需 要 多 些 蛋 白 質 。 見 第 二 版 An A-Z of English Grammar and Usage ） 。

從 前 ， of course 、 perhaps 、 however 等 字 用 於 句 中 ， 習 慣 前 後 都 加 逗 點 ， 但 現 在 往 往 略 去 。 讀 者 見 到 兩 個 標 點 法 ， 不 必 因 此 生 疑 。

輕 騎 兵 旅 衝 鋒 行

Russian aggression against Turkey in 1853 led to the Crimean War between Russia and an alliance of Britain, France and Turkey. During one of the battles, there was some confusion about the orders, and 673 British cavalrymen were sent on a charge up a long valley with Russian artillery firing on them from three sides. They suffered heavy casualties and, though able to engage the Russian forces at the end of the valley, they were soon forced to retire. More than 200 of them were killed.
Militarily, the charge was a terrible blunder, but the reputation of the British cavalry was greatly enhanced, thanks in no small part to Tennyson's famous poem "The Charge of the Light Brigade": "Into the Valley of Death / Rode the six hundred.../ Theirs not to reason why; / Theirs but to do and die."
